Biology

Subject Description

 

BIOLOGY is an elective subject for S4 – S6 students and serves as a continuation of S1 – S3 Integrated Science. Students who are interested in cells, life, environment, genetics, health or diseases may consider choosing Biology.

 


Objective

 

To develop our Biology students the ability to :

  • make scientific inquiries;
  • think scientifically, critically and creatively;
  • solve Biology-related problems individually and collaboratively;
  • make informed decisions and judgments on Biology-related issues;
  • have awareness of the social, ethical, economic, environmental and technological implications of Biology.

Class

 

In 2021 – 2022, there are two classes for each form. One class adopts Chinese as the medium of instruction (CMI) while another class adopts English as the medium of instruction (EMI).

Both CMI class and EMI class are subject to the choices made by students when they are in S3. It means that there may be two CMI classes or EMI classes in one form.

Requirement

For studying Biology in EMI class, there is a basic requirement of English level.  Students are required to have 170 marks or above in S3 English Language (P.S. whole S3 academic year).

 


 

HKDSE

In Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE), Biology consists of two components: public examination and a school-based assessment (SBA):

Syllabus

The syllabus of Biology in HKDSE will be covered and taught from S4 – S6. For elite students, there will be an extra topic in S6: Biotechnology.
